Ukraine: A sound system for the parish of Saint Stanislaus in Balta

The Latin-rite Catholic parish of Saint Stanislaus is situated in Balta, in southwest Ukraine, in the diocese of Odessa and Simferopol. The original parish church here was consecrated more than 250 years ago, but sadly this beautiful church was destroyed during communist times.

There are some 80 Catholics in the parish, including many children. The adults have formed a „Rosary prayer group“ and the children are enrolled in the „Children of Mary“ group. This year, for the first time since 1993, the Sacrament of Confirmation was administered in the parish, to seven adults and one child.

The rebuilding of their former church has been a heartfelt desire of the whole parish, but it has cost them a great deal of effort, hard work and money too. The men of the parish have given up their spare time to help with the work, and ACN has made more than one financial contribution towards the restoration of this church.

Now the bulk of the work has finally been completed, but there is still plenty to be done. One thing that is still urgently needed is a proper sound system, so that the congregation can follow the religious services properly. We have promised them 5000 Euros.
