Health condition of Bishop Dumas of Anse-à-Veau/Miragoâne is stable

The Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti (CEH) has issued an urgent statement to all members of the clergy, religious orders, and believers to inform them about the health condition of Bishop Pierre André Dumas, who was injured by an explosion in Port-au-Prince on Sunday afternoon.

“Monsignor Pierre André Dumas, Bishop of Anse-à-Veau/Miragoâne, was affected by an explosion that reached the house where he was staying during his visit to Port-au-Prince,” stated the statement sent to Aid to the Church in Need. Fortunately, “the health condition of Monsignor Dumas remains stable,” says the statement.

Speaking to Aid to the Church in Need, Archbishop Max Leroy Mesidor of Port au Prince, President of the Bishop Conference in Haiti, reports that the cause of the explosion is still under investigation: “It is still uncertain whether the explosion was caused by a gas leak or a criminal act. The police are investigating, but they believe it seems to be a gas explosion.”

“Bishop Dumas underwent surgery yesterday. The blast was strong and caused serious burns to Monsignor Dumas’ face, arms, and legs”, he added calling for prayers for the swift recovery of the Bishop of Anse-à-Veau/Miragoâne.
